Physical Therapist

Allison is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and owner of Body Smart Physio, a specialty women’s health practice focused on helping women overcome injury, eliminate pelvic floor dysfunction, stay active during pregnancy, and better prepare for birth. She greatly enjoys working with active pregnant and postpartum women to guide exercise choices and to help clients feel back in control of their bodies after birth.

Allison has specialized training in pelvic floor rehabilitation and is passionate about helping women continue to exercise safely during pregnancy as well as fully recover (and become even stronger!) postpartum. Her interest in women’s health began following her two close together pregnancies when she discovered how little she felt in control of her body with returning to exercise.

She strongly believes quality pelvic health treatment can be life changing for women and that it should be the norm for every woman, particularly those who are pregnant or postpartum,  to have their pelvic floor function checked to decrease risk of developing pelvic issues over the lifespan.

Treatment sessions start with thoroughly discussing client’s preferences and concerns, reviewing treatment options and working together to set personalized goals. Sessions include hands-on treatment and corrective exercises to guide healing. Some treatment options which are tailored to clients needs include: joint and spinal mobilization to correct mechanics, pelvic floor muscle retraining and trigger point dry needling to optimize whole body movement and eliminate pain.

She frequently works with women with urine leakage, painful sex, spinal and hip pain, diastasis recti and pelvic organ prolapse. She also is a specialist in working with female fitness athletes to improve recovery and performance postpartum.

Allison is certified in Orthopedic Manual therapy (hands on treatment) through extensive training with Evidence in Motion. She received the Elam Plowman award for excellence in musculoskeletal physical therapy in 2014, is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and 200 hr certified yoga teacher.

Allison sees patients at the Thrive Mama Collective on Wednesdays and Thursdays and also offers a limited number of at home sessions for patients. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (405) 256-2995, emailing amatos@bodysmartpt.com or through her website www.bodysmartpt.com.
